Job Summary

The Echo Technician/Cardiovascular Technician is accountable for the following:

  • In both the inpatient and outpatient care settings, the Cardiovascular Tech will perform the duties and responsibilities as assigned below. Under the indirect medical supervision, the individual will be required to provide services to patients in all areas of the inpatient, and outpatient in all age groups from neonatal to geriatric. The Technologist must be able to perform specific duties as outlined below and adapt to all situations encountered. Competency standards of performance that are required in the areas specified by department policy must be maintained. The individual practitioner may be assigned orientation and in-service education responsibilities.
  • The cardiovascular tech is an individual who is experienced in diagnostic cardiovascular procedures. The individual performs all cardiovascular procedures at a technical and professional level requiring minimal supervision of technical detail. The cardiovascular tech performs a variety of technical procedures on both inpatient and outpatients that require responsible and independent judgment. The individual will assume responsibility and initiative for designated areas and procedures as required. The individual will assist with training, education, and orientation of staff and others. The individual will also recognize that the purpose of their employment is to prioritize the patient as number one, achieve the highest level of customer satisfaction, and to give the utmost quality as a Sonographer.
  • The Cardiovascular Tech is responsible and accountable to Director of Radiology. The technologist works under the indirect supervision of the Director of Radiology and carries out assigned duties and responsibilities according to the policies and procedures approved by the Medical Director. This individual is expected to possess advanced knowledge and skills in the following areas:
  • Echocardiography Adult and will train to do perform pediatric Echocardiogram
  • Stress Echocardiography
  • Contrast Echocardiography
  • Stress Tests
  • ECGs
  • Holter Monitors
  • This individual is expected to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position with minimal or indirect supervision and may have to make independent decisions.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to respond to specific issues and data reflective of the patient/customer's status. The Technologist demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the population served in the department.

Education and/or Experience

  • Graduate of an A.M.A. approved school in a related health field (i.e., Cardiovascular Technology) required. 
  • Two - three years of previous ultrasound experience required. 
  • Required to have a working knowledge of cardiac and vascular pathology.

Licensure/Certification/Registration

  • ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographer) registered in either Echocardiograms (RDCS) (Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer)/ or Vascular Technology (RVT) (Registered Vascular Technologist) required.  New Graduates must have initial registry within 12 months of hire.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
  • Second ARDMS registered within 18 months of hire is required

Work Schedule

  • Varied Day Shifts; PRN (as needed)

Pay

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

  • $30.25 - $45.75 per hour
