The Accounting Department manages the financial information of the Company. They answer billing questions, process payments, and issue disbursements. In addition, they maintain the Company credit card program, reinsurance and investment records as well as other financial information. The Department prepares financial statements, tax filings, and other required filings.
North Star Mutual Insurance Company is looking for applicants for our summer 2025 Accounting internship. Students will have the opportunity to prepare payments and apply them to proper accounts and process miscellaneous income including agency payments and salvage/subrogation payments for claims. Assisting with/exposure to the maintenance of investment records, coding/entering checks for payment, reconciling/balancing general ledger/bank statements, maintaining select reinsurance records and preparing monthly/quarterly/annual statements are key functions of this hands on and informative internship experience. Other duties and/or projects may be assigned. There may be some crossover to other departments such as Actuarial and Research and Development.
Individuals that have strong analytical skills, the ability to learn a variety of computer programs and are solid communicators are encouraged to apply. Interns may be exposed to confidential Company information and must be able to maintain that throughout and following their experience at North Star.
The pursuit of an Associates or Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required for this internship. Preference will be given to students enrolled in the North Star Mutual School of Business at Southwest Minnesota State University.
Compensation: $18.00 per hour.
