Description
Southwest MN Hacks: Fall 2026 is a free 24-hour student hackathon hosted at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minnesota. Students ages 14+ will come together to build technology projects, explore software, cybersecurity, data science, AI, and IT, and connect with mentors, local employers, educators, and community partners.
The event is open to students of all skill levels. Beginners are welcome, and participants may compete individually or in teams of up to four. The hackathon will include meals, workshops, mentorship, prizes, swag, and overnight venue access with sleeping areas available.
Beyond the competition, Southwest MN Hacks is designed to create real connections between students and the regional workforce. Students will have opportunities to meet employers, receive guidance from mentors, explore internships or project continuation opportunities, and learn how their technical skills can be used in real businesses and community organizations.
Employers and community partners can get involved through sponsorship, mentoring, judging, networking opportunities, and challenge or prize support. The event creates a close, meaningful way for local businesses to engage with emerging student talent while supporting innovation and workforce development in southwest Minnesota.
Pre-registration is required. Walk-in registration is not guaranteed. Students under 18 must have parent or legal guardian consent before check-in.
