Job Description
This position exists to serve as the Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) for Southwest Minnesota State University by providing subject matter expertise and advanced strategic HR leadership to administrators, faculty and staff within the designated division on a wide range of human resources functions including but not limited to; employee/labor relations, employee retention, classification/range assignment, compensation, benefits, retirement, orientation and onboarding, and talent and organizational management. The HRBP ensures compliance with collective bargaining agreements, Minnesota State (MinnState) policies, and state and federal laws.  
 
This position is considered confidential as defined by M.S. 13.37 as it accesses and utilizes information pertaining to labor relations, serves as a resource to management for labor relations information, provides assistance and information for use in the development of a strike plan, and researches and compiles classification and compensation information to respond to equity proposals for salary ranges for classes under review in collective bargaining negotiations. 

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Psychology or related field AND at least two (2) years of human resources experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Professional human resources experience in functional areas such as benefits, retirement, compensation, employee relations, labor relations and/or training and development. 
  • Working knowledge of employment laws such as:  FMLA, FLSA, ADA, EEO 
  • Ability to communicate effective and professionally, with sensitivity and discretion 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality 
  • Ability to work inclusively with people from diverse backgrounds 

Preferred Qualification 
  • Master’s Degree in HR, Business, Psychology, or related field 
  • Five (5) or more years of general human resources experience 
  • Professional human resource certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, etc.) 
  • Experience leading change management activities, building trust among teams, and attracting talent 
  • Experience working in a multi-union environment 
  • Ability to process facilitation and project management skills
