Professor Julie Walker
Communication: Connecting Comfortably as Women in the Workplace
From emails to Zoom calls, we are asked to become masters of many types of communication in the workplace.
Beyond the best practices for any particular channel, we are impacted by communication expectations for women and nonbinary people as compared to men in our culture.
When we coupled all these factors with COVID’s impact on in-person workplaces shifting online, we’re all facing new environments and we could use some help.
Come chat with Julie Walker to get a different perspective on how we can approach communicating with others in the workplace.

Julie Walker (she/her/Mx.) is a professor of Communication Studies and the assistant director of the speech team at Southwest Minnesota State University. She is also the Director of the Women’s Center and the LGBTQ+ Center on campus.
When she’s not teaching, coaching, or hosting events, she’s usually playing with her kids, building things, being active in the community, or walking her dog Benny.
