Join us for a day of learning, understanding, empathy and skill building! Understanding Minds, Transforming Care: A Mental Health and Neurodiversity Conference NAMI Minnesota, Southwest Minnesota State University, and Prairie Winds Counseling, Inc. are proud to host Understanding Minds, Transforming Care: A Mental Health and Neurodiversity Conference. Join us for a day of learning through informative sessions that increase empathy and understanding, spotlight available services, address common barriers to quality care, and explore skill-building. This conference is open to anyone interested in becoming more responsive to the needs of neurodivergent adults with co-occurring mental illnesses, especially those providing mental and physical health care or direct services. Neurodivergent adults face poorer health outcomes and lower quality healthcare. A lack of understanding, compassion, and skills contributes to the barriers reported by neurodivergent adults. This includes physical and mental healthcare and related direct services utilized by these individuals. The co-occurrence of mental illnesses and mental health challenges in neurodivergent adults is also common, but diagnoses are often confused, symptoms are often misunderstood, and negative attitudes persist.
