This position exists to receive, receipt, balance and deposit all incoming monies due the University. The position is involved in cash transactions (cash, check, credit card} at the cashier window and recording online/ACH payments for the University. This position will process high volumes of activity and considerable amounts of cash, including complexity in posting the funds accurately to a large variety of accounts. The large sums of money are to be handled and accounted for timely, properly and very accurately. This head cashier position will also verify work of other clerical staff by balancing and making deposits daily. This position will also process clearing batches, process NSF checks, and assist in making phone calls and the mailing of monthly statements to all students with past due account balances. This position provides front-line customer service to external customers, students, faculty and staff who visit the cashier's window.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Accounts receivable and computerized billing systems sufficient to enter and access information and identify and correct errors.

  • Basic accounting procedures sufficient to prepare itemized statements, bills or invoices, and record amounts due for items purchased or services rendered.

  • Ability to oversee, lead, train, and evaluate the work activities of employees in their work area.

  • Ability to Calculate and verify totals on reports, forms, requisitions, or bills using a calculator and/or other tools.

  • Skill in math sufficient to calculate, review and reconcile data and balance accounts

  • Skill in customer service sufficient to perform the duties with politeness, respect, and interest in positive problem solving.

 

Preferred Qualification 

  • Knowledge of the Minnstate policies and procedures relating to the financial administration of the University.

  • Ability to review other clerical staffs work for accuracy and act as the lead worker for the cashiering operations.

  • Knowledge of State of Minnesota Financial and HR systems and Minnstate Finance and HR systems.

  • Sufficient knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP}, and governmental accounting standards board (GASB), and practices sufficient to coordinate department or agency accounting functions.
