This site caretaker is responsible for the day-to-day management of specific nursery and finishing sites. This includes matters relating to the daily care and observation of the pigs, maintaining production records, and performing general site maintenance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receive, sort, and count pigs upon arrival
- Twice daily observation and walk-through
- Order feed according to the preset budget
- Treat sick or injured animals and remove mortalities in a proper and timely manner
- Ensure proper setting and function of ventilation, feeding, and watering equipment
- Sort, mark, and load pigs for market or movement
- Maintain accurate production records and report to management on a timely basis
- Oversee and perform cleaning and disinfecting of barns between groups
- General maintenance of the facility including the yard/grounds
- Identify major repair needs and bring to the attention of management
- Attend and participate in regular production meetings
- Follow all standard operating procedures, biosecurity and safety policies
- Assist at other sites and in other departments if necessary
- One-year livestock experience or further education in an ag-related field
- Self-motivated and a willingness to work independently within a varied and flexible schedule
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive company vehicles
- At least 50% English language proficiency
- Ability to lift 60 lbs. and spend long periods of time standing and walking
- Full-Time – 40 hours per week. Overtime may be available.
- Hours will vary between 5 AM and 10 PM as the workload requires.
- Rotating weekends and holidays are required
