DESCRIPTION:Dr. Mary Jones\, Director of Extended Learning & Academic Outreach at SMSU\, will present on Tenement Life for the Immigrants in New York City\, 1890s on Tuesday\, May 22 at the Lyon County Museum\, 301 W Lyon St\, Marshall.  The program starts at 6:30pm.  Over 23 million immigrants came to America between 1881 and the mid 1920's.  Life in America was a hard life for most immigrants in a city filled with overcrowding\, crime\, disease and gritty reality.  Dr. Mary Jones will explore the life of families in the tenements as documented through the photography of Jacob Riis. The program is free and light refreshments will be served.
